A member of the Canadian Association of Nurses in AIDS Care and the American Association of Nurses in AIDS Care, the Canadian HIV/AIDS Legal Network, the BC Persons with AIDS Society, the International Harm Reduction Association, the International AIDS Society, and the Xi Eta Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honour Society, Alan Wood has served on 2 national Boards and has worked in HIV/AIDS care for 20 years.  He was instrumental in establishing Canada's first HIV/AIDS day health centre and first publicly supported supervised injection service for HIV+ injection drug users at the Dr. Peter Centre, Vancouver.  Alan also participated in the process leading to the first full-scale legalized SIF in North America.  Alan's work has been published in peer reviewed journals. He recently completed his Masters at the School of Nursing, University of British Columbia, and his Masters Thesis won the Outstanding MSN Thesis Award for the 2009-2010 academic year.  A Graduate Research Trainee with the IMPART Program for gender, women and addictions research, Alan is a recipient of the 2007 Canadian Institutes of Health Research Award for community-based research.
