Research Interests
Beth earned her Ph.D. in Human Nutrition from the University of British Columbia, where she investigated the effects of prenatal alcohol exposure on the developing fetal skeleton.  Her research earned her an Outstanding Student/Postdoc Award from the Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Study Group and a finalist standing for the Enoch Gordis Research Recognition Award of the Research Society on Alcoholism.  During her doctoral studies, she was actively involved in teaching, including developing and teaching an online problem-based learning (PBL) course in introductory nutrition and training new graduate students and faculty members in PBL facilitation skills.  She was awarded the Graduate Student Teaching Award of Merit from the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture and a Graduate TA Teaching Award from UBC in recognition of her teaching accomplishments.  Currently, she is a sessional instructor in the Food, Nutrition & Health program at UBC. In addition, Beth is actively involved in science outreach – bringing the excitement of science to schoolchildren in Vancouver and beyond.  She coordinated the highly successful UBC Let’s Talk Science Partnership Program for five years, engaging students in hands-on science activities in classrooms, summer camps and in the community, and has judged science fairs at the local, regional and national level. Currently, she is a Scientist in Residence with the Vancouver School Board.   Beth is delighted to be bringing her experience in addictions research, education and program development to IMPART.
