Annette Browne,
PhD, RN
Dr. Annette Browne is Associate Professor at the School of Nursing, University of British Columbia (UBC), a Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) New Investigator, a Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research (MSFHR) Career Scholar and a Co-Investigator at NEXUS: Researching the Social Context of Health Behaviour.
Dr. Browne's research program focuses on three main areas: (i) culture and health, (ii) Aboriginal health, specifically, access to health services and health care inequities; and (iii) theoretical contributions to critical inquiry in health care. Her research is funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Michael Smith Foundation of Health Research. Dr. Browne is also a Family Nurse Practitioner who has practiced in northern First Nations and Inuit communities throughout Canada . She teaches courses in Aboriginal health, Health Policy, and Advanced Health Assessment, among others. Her involvement on Master's and PhD thesis committees is in a variety of disciplines including Nursing, Interdisciplinary Studies, Community and Regional Planning, and Nutritional Sciences.
