Clay Holroyd,
PhD
Dr. Holroyd is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at
the University of Victoria. He is a CIHR New Investigator, a MSFHR Career
Investigator, and a Founding Fellow of the UBC Institute of Mental Health.
His research interests concern the neurobiological mechanisms that
underlie cognitive control - how people regulate their attention,
thoughts, and actions in accord with high-level goals and intentions. In
particular, Dr. Holroyd investigates the brain systems that enable people
to detect and correct their errors and to learn from the consequences of
their actions. A major focus of his current research concerns the
cognitive and neural mechanisms associated with childhood
attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder. To investigate these issues he
adopts a variety of empirical and theoretical approaches, especially
event-related brain potentials and computational modeling. Dr. Holroyd has
authored or coauthored over 35 scholarly publications; his doctoral work
on dopamine and reinforcement learning, published in 2002, has been cited
over 230 times.
