Research Interests

My research interests centre on issues of homelessness and housing from a health perspective, with a particular focus on the intersection of gender, mental health and addictions, and homelessness. My current research involves examining gender and injection drug use (IDU) among a cohort of homeless adults with serious mental illness. I plan to extend this work by exploring the impact of domestic violence, adverse childhood experiences and trauma as potential mediating factors for service utilization and long-term housing tenure among this cohort. I am currently designing a doctoral research project to further examine gender and IDU from a trauma-informed perspective. My objective is to explore the interplay of gender, mental illness and substance use with adverse childhood experiences, interpersonal violence and trauma in the aetiology of homelessness, and link to trajectories of homeless women’s service utilization, housing and health-related outcomes.
